Headgear
This is a spot that is often overlooked. We already talked about headlamps in the lighting section, but there are real reasons to bring some headgear.
A lot of headgear choices will coincide with the weather. Here in Texas it is usually hot and sunny. The biggest things with headgear here is trying to provide shade. Wide brim hats are popular on trails as they look nature-like, but visors are also a good choice to block the sun and get some shade on your face.
When you are dealing with the cold you want to choose headgear that does holds heat in. Beanies are a good choice or trapper hats as they are lined in fur and hold in a lot of heat. They are also fairly padded and can help with comfort when laying down. Depending on where you are you may need a shade hat during the day and a warm hat at night.
Outside of heat and cold there is also moisture. If you are going to be sweating a lot you might want a sweat band or baseball cap. If you might deal with the rain you may want some kind of rain cap.
Headgear is important and often overlooked. You shouldn’t worry too much about it, just give yourself a realistic idea of what to expect rain, heat, cold, and sweat. Once you know what is coming headgear is pretty cut and dry.
