Pillows
Pillows are a bit more on the luxury side. If you are RV camping then you most likely will have pillows on the beds at all time, but when you are loading up a car pillows can be a space killer. If you are backpacking then it not only takes up a ton of space, but also adds weight to your pack.
Like with the bedding if you are RV camping then pillows aren’t special. You use extras or buy them at any home goods store like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond. Click the link below to check out Amazon’s selection.
If you are worried about space and weight then there are some options. There are lightweight foam, compressible foam, inflatable, and stuffable.
If you are only concerned about space then a small foam or compressible pillow will work out well. These are about the size of decorative couch pillows and weight 7 to 12 ounces. The compressible pillows can be squished down into smaller bins and such.
If you are also concerned about weight there are nicer compressibles that are made from down that compress into a stuff sack to the size of a coke bottle. Although a bit more pricy their weight can range from 2.5 to 7 ounces.
There are also inflatable pillows. The inflatable pillows are what you would imagine. I personally am not a fan of sleeping on a balloon that is barely as wide as my head, but they can weigh as little as 2 ounces. Many of them have a nozzle for inflation and that adds to the weight a bit.
The last category is a stuffable pillow. Essentially this is a stuff sack that you can put your extra clothes in to create padding and use as a pillow. This is a great option for backpackers since they can weigh under 3 ounces, but since there are stuff sacks that are made for any purpose getting one specifically for a pillow may be pointless. Knowing that the comfort comes from what you put inside, you may be better off using a small stuff sack that comes in closer to 1 ounce.
