Toilets

Toilets

Here is a gross topic. I highly prefer to camp at places that provide a nice, clean, indoor latrine. But, sometimes you just want to explore the middle of nowhere or a deserted beach. At these places having a place to do your business is almost the lap of luxury.

Stacked Wooden Logs

There are different types of portable toilets. There are flushable and bag collection. These range from have the aesthetics of an actual toilet to being either a raised seat with a bag or simply a bucket. The flushable ones are going to be a bit heavier because they store water to be flushed. I am not experienced in the ways of the portable toilet, but I would expect that a flushable probably stinks a bit less. They have a holding tank that removes the need for waste bags and can seal off some of the smell. With the non-flushable you may want to consider one that has a lid and some cat litter to reduce some odor.

Outside of the toilet itself you can also get a popup tent that turns your forest toilet into a forest restroom. If you don't like the idea of carrying around a toilet, that you have to empty, deodorize, and clean, the only other solid option is a trowel, otherwise known as a poop shovel...
